Elizabeth Berkley is an American actress born on July 28, 1972 in Farmington Hills, Michigan. She studied at Cranbrook Kingswood School, and graduated Farmington High School in 1990. At a young age she began to develop a great interest in dancing, and later she started dancing professionally. During her teenage years, she took part various ballet productions including “Swan Lake.”
Her career in the entertainment industry began through modeling. Elizabeth Berkley first worked as a teen model for Elite, and later on she made guest appearances for various television shows. In 1989, she was cast in the hit teen sitcom “Saved by the Bell” and became known to audiences as Jessica Spano. She played the role from 1989 to 1993.
After “Saved by the Bell,” Elizabeth Berkley starred in the film “Showgirls.” Later she bagged a role in “The First Wives Club,” “Any Given Sunday,” and “The Real Blonde.”
Aside from making movies, Elizabeth Berkley had several appearances on various television shows such as “CSI,” “NYPD: Blue,” “Without a Trace,” “Threshold,” and “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.” She also had roles in “Titus” and the TV movie “Student Seduction.”
Elizabeth Berkley enjoyed critical praise for her role in the off-Broadway production of “Hurlyburly.” She also was successful in hosting the reality series “Step It Up and Dance,” which garnered high ratings for the Bravo network.
Aside from being an actress and dancer, Elizabeth Berkley is an animal rights activist since 1997. She posed wearing a form-fitting gown made of collard greens for a PETA-sponsored campaign during that year. In 2008 and 2009, she was nominated for the Sexiest Vegetarian of the Year award.
In 2003, Elizabeth Berkley married artist Greg Lauren, three years after meeting in a dance class. Lauren’s uncle is renowned fashion designer Ralph Lauren. She is also developing her own production company, 5,6,7,8 Productions.
